Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit says it is investigating a collision involving a police cruiser and a “civilian” vehicle in Pickering.

The crash happened on Friday evening near Kingston and Brock roads.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) told CP24 that members of West Division were responding to a call when they were involved in a collision.

“(The) SIU was contacted and has invoked (its mandate). All further questions will have to be directed toward them,” Acting Sgt. Nick Gluckstein, of DPRS, wrote in an email.

A spokesperson from the SIU, which is called in to investigate when police are involved in an incident that results in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person, said they won’t have further details on this case until Monday.

Parts of Kingston and Brock roads were closed in both directions at Brock Road as police investigated.
