Two 14-year-old boys have been arrested following a knifepoint robbery in Oshawa on Wednesday.

Durham Regional Police said they got a call at 5:45 p.m. for a robbery in the area of Hillcrest Drive and Dean Avenue, near Highway 401 and Wilson Road South.

Officers learned that a victim arranged to meet a suspect to purchase a cellphone listed for sale on an online marketplace.

“During the exchange, a second suspect approached and threatened the victim at knifepoint while demanding the victim’s wallet,” police allege.

The victim was not injured physically.

The suspects shortly fled. Police said officers arrived and deployed a drone to help locate the suspects.

The drone, police said, later located the suspects entering a vehicle. It then followed the suspect vehicle until officers initiated a traffic stop.

Police said the suspects ran away during the stop, but the drone tracked them through a neighbourhood.

Following a brief pursuit, the suspects were arrested.

In a news release on Friday, they said the two 14-year-old boys from Oshawa were charged with robbery and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

One of them is also facing charges of disguise with intent and unlawfully possessing a Schedule I substance.

They cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
