An elderly man has seriously injuries after being struck by the driver of a car in Whitby on Monday morning.
The crash happened near Taunton Road East and McKinney Drive, just east of Brock Street North.
Durham Regional Police Services said they were called to that area at around 8:35 a.m. for reports of a collision.
Investigators say a 44-year-old man was driving a Honda sedan southbound on McKinney Drive, approaching the intersection at Taunton Road East, when he turned left, hitting a 91-year-old man using a “mobility assister” scooter as he was heading northbound in the crosswalk.
The senior sustained serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries and was taken to a local area hospital in stable condition, police say.
The driver of the car remained on scene and cooperated with police.
The Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and conducted an investigation, which resulted in the roadway being closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
