Man charged for allegedly using fake ID to buy $200K SUV in Oakville

A 27-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly using fraudulent ID to purchase a luxury vehicle worth more than $200,000 in Oakville.

It happened on Dec. 11, at Budd’s Imported Cars at 227 Wyecroft Rd.

Halton Regional Police say the accused expressed interesting buying a Land Rover SUV. He allegedly made an agreement to buy the SUV and a delivery date was pending, though the dealership’s staff later determined he used fake ID.

Following an investigation, officers allege they found multiple pieces of fraudulent identification, including birth certificates, drivers licences and SIN cards.

On Tuesday, police arrested Oshawa resident Ambady Ajeev, who is facing fraud-related charges. He has also been charged with fail to comply with probation order.

“Vehicle theft can take many forms, and this incident is another example of how thieves can and will utilize various strategies and schemes in order to acquire high-end vehicles,” Det.-Sgt. Jared McLeod said in a release.
