Halton police are looking for five suspects in connection with a smash-and-grab at a jewelry store in Burlington on Sunday.

The incident happened at the Michael Hill Jewelers inside Mapleview Mall shortly before 3 p.m.

Police said four suspects entered the store and broke numerous display cases with a hammer.

The suspects then took multiple pieces of jewelry, police said.

Shortly after, police said the suspects fled in a newer-model dark grey Honda Civic, driven by a fifth suspect who was waiting for them.

“At the time of the incident initial reports of gunfire were received from inside the mall, however investigation quickly determined the sounds heard were a result of the hammers contacting the glass display cases. No firearms were seen or used,” police said in a news release on Wednesday.

No injuries were reported.

Police have shared the image of the suspect vehicle, while they only have a limited description of the four suspects who were last seen wearing dark-coloured clothing and face coverings.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them at 905-825-4777 ext. 2316 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
