The Ottawa Police Service says an officer was charged with assault after an off-duty incident in Oakville, Ont. earlier this month.
According to a news release from police, Staff Sgt. Walt Lushman is facing one count of assault for an incident took place on June 12 at 10:20 p.m. The incident followed an “alleged dispute related to a collision between two vehicles.”
Lushman was released on an undertaking with conditions.
The Halton Regional Police Service are undertaking a criminal investigation, and Ottawa police say Lushman will have no public-facing duties while the investigation is ongoing.
The Ottawa Police Service Professional Standards Unit is also investigating the incident.
“The OPS holds all officers to a high standard of conduct, both on and off duty, and expects their actions to reflect the trust and values of the community we serve,” Ottawa police wrote.
