Police in Halton Region are investigating a homicide after being called to a residence in Burlington Thursday morning for a wellness check.
On Thursday, at around 6:30 a.m., Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) attended a high-rise apartment building at 3020 Glencrest Rd., located north of New Street and east of Guelph Line, to check on the well-being of a female occupant.
There, officers found a woman dead inside an apartment. No one else was located in the unit, they said.
Police say they subsequently identified a male suspect in his 40s as a person who fled that residence prior to their arrival. The investigation determined he went to the Niagara Falls area.
Niagara Regional Police Service was contacted and the suspect was located and arrested at approximately 7:45 a.m. Charges are pending.
Investigators say the suspect and deceased are “known to each other,” adding they’re not looking for additional suspects.
Const. Ryan Anderson, of HRPS, later said that the call police received a was from a family member. He added that the victim is a woman in her 40s.
No threat to public safety
Police previously said in a social media post that there is no threat to public safety, adding that residents should expect an ongoing police presence in the vicinity.
