Hamilton police have charged a man with multiple hate-related offences after investigating threatening online posts directed at the Jewish community.
Police say they were alerted to the posts on September of 2024, and identified the suspect as Harley Mitchell, 32, of Hamilton. He was arrested on Oct. 1 and initially charged with uttering threats to cause death and failing to comply with probation.
Upon a thorough review of the online posts, investigators say they submitted a report to the Office of the Attorney General for approval to lay additional charges.
On Thursday, Mitchell was later charged with advocating genocide, willful promotion of hatred, and willful promotion of antisemitism.
The initial charges remain in place. All of the charges have not been tested in court.
Police say, “hate has no place in Hamilton.”
