Suspect sought after stolen truck crashes into tree in Brantford

The Brantford Police Service is searching for a suspect after a stolen pickup truck crashed into a tree early Sunday morning.

Police said a silver GMC Sierra was seen travelling at a high rate of speed on Ninth Avenue shortly before is struck a tree on Erie Avenue around 4:39 a.m.

Investigators later determined the vehicle had been reported stolen from Langton and was bearing licence plates stolen from Brantford.

A 37-year-old woman found at the scene was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

The driver fled before officers arrived and remains at large. Police said the suspect is described as a while male with short brown hair, wearing a dark hoodie and jeans.

Police are asking residents who live in Brantford’s Eagle Place neighbourhood, between River Road and Mohawk Street, to review any home surveillance footage from 4:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. They are also seeking dash cam footage from motorists in the area during that time.
