A 67-year-old man remains in critical condition after being punched by another man in a Hamilton building on Tuesday afternoon.

Hamilton police said the security guards of the building on King Street West found an unconscious man with head injuries around 4 p.m. and called emergency services.

Police and paramedics arrived and transported the man to the hospital, where he is currently intubated.

An investigation, police said, determined that a 48-year-old man known to them allegedly struck the victim with a closed fist unexpectedly, causing him to fall to the ground and become unconscious.

The suspect was located in the immediate area and was arrested without incident, police said.

He has been charged with aggravated assault and eight counts of failure to comply with probation.
