Two people are facing multiple weapon and drug charges following an investigation into a shooting that occurred at a business in Hamilton last year.
In a news release on Tuesday, Hamilton police said officers responded to a shooting at a downtown business near Main Street East and East Avenue South on May 9.
Police had previously said the shooting happened at around 12:30 a.m. and that multiple shots were fired, resulting in one male suffering gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In their update, investigators said search warrants were executed at a residence in Ancaster on Jan. 23, in connection with the shooting and a separate, ongoing drug investigation.
Officers allegedly seized various amounts of cocaine, fentanyl, crystal methamphetamines, ammunition, cell phones, and digital scales.
As a result, two people were arrested, one of whom police said has been charged in connection to the May shooting.
Mahamud Ibrahim, 45, of Hamilton, has been charged with nearly a dozen offences, including aggravated assault, reckless discharge of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited or restricted loaded firearm.
Marcela Manriquez, 39, also of Hamilton, is facing multiple drug trafficking charges.
Hamilton police say the investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with further information about the shooting is asked to contact them at 905-546-4883 or shootingresponseteam@hamiltonpolice.ca, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
