Brantford, Ont. man, 28, identified as victim of Ottawa homicide

Two people are facing murder charges following a fatal stabbing in Carlington. CTV’s Katie Griffin reports.

A Brantford, Ont. man is dead after a reported stabbing in a residential area near Ottawa’s Central Experimental Farm Wednesday night.

Emergency crews responded to the 1400 block of Mayview Avenue, in the Carlington neighbourhood, at approximately 7:10 p.m. Wednesday.

The Ottawa Police Service said a man was located at the scene with life-threatening injuries. An Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson told CTV News Ottawa crews responded to reports of a stabbing on Mayview Avenue near Merivale Road.

The man was was transported to hospital, where he later died.

The victim has been identified as Shawn Challis-Eatough, 28, of Brantford.

“I looked out on my balcony, saw a bunch of cops all over my street,” said a man identifying himself as Danny who lives nearby. “Bunch of lights over here on Mayview and a bunch of police around.”

Three people are facing charges in connection with the incident.

Steve Vivian, 41, of Ottawa, and Anthony Meredith, 19, of Kitchener, are each charged with second-degree murder. Both men appeared in court Thursday.

On Friday, police said Selina Rose O’Quinn, 41, was also charged with second-degree murder. Her arrest was announced Thursday and she is schedule to appear in court Friday.

“Police do not believe there is an ongoing risk to public safety,” police said. “The investigation is ongoing, and officers remain in the area.”

The building belongs to Ottawa Community Housing (OCH).

“We are aware of the situation and are working closely with the Ottawa Police Service to support them as needed,” OCH said in a statement. “As this is an active and ongoing police investigation, we are unable to comment further at this time.”
