A Kitchener man is facing several charges after he was found asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle in the middle of a Hamilton area highway.

In a post on social media, Ontario Provincial Police say officers with their Burlington detachment responded to multiple reports of a vehicle stopped in the middle lane of the westbound Highway 403 near the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway in Hamilton.

When they arrived, the driver was unresponsive and following “numerous unsuccessful attempts” to wake him, officers broke one of the vehicle’s windows.

OPP say the driver “showed obvious signs of impairment” and was arrested.

They add that he blew 2.5 times the legal limit.

A 23-year-old male from Kitchener is now facing charges of operation while impaired—both for alcohol and drugs, and blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

He has also been handed a 90-day licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
