Hamilton police are asking for the public’s help as they launch an investigation into the city’s first shooting of 2026.

In a news release, officials say at approximately 7:13 p.m. on Jan. 31, officers responded to a business in the area of East 28th Street and Fennell Avenue East following reports of a shooting.

Police say an adult male was injured and transported to hospital in serious condition.

Investigators believe the suspect fled the area on foot, travelling northbound on East 27th Street from Fennell Avenue East.

At this time, no suspect description has been released, as police say the investigation remains in its “early stages.”

Detectives are asking residents, business owners, and anyone travelling through the area to review surveillance or dash camera footage captured between 7:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. for anything suspicious.
