People in Hamilton up early to watch the 2026 Winter Olympics can now enjoy an alcoholic beverage.
Effective immediately, licensed indoor establishments in the southern Ontario city can sell and serve alcohol starting at 6 a.m. daily.
This temporary extension, which comes in response to a motion by the City of Hamilton and is approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, will be in effect until Feb. 22, 2026.
The standard closing time of 2 a.m. of bars and restaurants, however, will remain unchanged.
The longer alcohol service hours does not apply to outdoor licensed areas like patios, the municipality noted in a news release.
“All licensees must continue to comply with the Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019 (LLCA), its regulations, and the Registrar’s standards and requirements. Responsible sale and service of alcohol remain mandatory,” it said.
Residents and businesses are also being reminded to “celebrate safely and responsibly while enjoying the Olympic Games”
