A Brantford man has been charged with second-degree murder for Sunday night’s fatal shooting.
Officers with the Brantford Police Service were called to Erie and Gladstone Avenue around 8:15 p.m.
“The investigation has revealed that the victim acted as a Good Samaritan and intervened in an altercation before he was shot by the accused,” a media release said.

The victim was only identified as a 38-year-old Brantford man.
The shooter fled before officers arrived in the Eagle Place neighbourhood.
“Through the use of K-9 tracking, members of the Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team quickly located the accused hiding in the rear yard of a nearby home,” the release continued. “The accused was arrested shortly after the incident and the firearm believed to have been the weapon used in the shooting was recovered by police.”

The 35-year-old man from Brantford was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order and breach of a probation order.
Police said they are not looking for any other suspects in the case.
