Hamilton police say a man involved in a “neighbour dispute” in the city’s east end was in possession of a sawed-off shotgun that he had concealed in a bag.
The incident occurred at around 7:15 a.m. on April 3 in the area of Cannon and Ottawa streets.
According to police, officers received reports of two neighbours fighting and causing damage to property.
“Upon arrival, both individuals had left the area. Officers obtained information indicating that one of the involved parties may have been in possession of a firearm,” police said in a news release.
“Police quickly flooded the area and located a male matching the provided description.”
When officers attempted to engage the man, police allege he was “uncooperative” and a struggle ensued.
He was subsequently taken into custody and charged with uttering threats to cause death and mischief, damage to property.
“Following the arrest, officers conducted a search of the individual’s belongings and located a loaded, sawed-off shotgun concealed in a bag,“ the news release continued.
He is also facing one count of possession of a prohibited firearm, police said.
