The driver of a dump truck has been charged after a City of Hamilton crossing guard was struck and killed late last year.
The collision happened on the afternoon of Nov. 13, 2025, at the intersection of Mohawk Road and Upper Wentworth Street.
Hamilton Police said the 52-year-old crossing guard was on his way to work and was not performing his duties at the time of the collision.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath said at the time that she was “heartbroken” by the crossing guard’s death, and extended her heartfelt condolences to the victim’s loved ones.
In a news release issued Friday, police said they charged a 61-year-old man from Hamilton with careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act.
Officials did not disclose the driver’s identity, but said he is scheduled to appear in court this May.
