Hamilton police say a male driver and his female passenger are both dead after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed early Sunday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Claremont Drive, in the area of Claremont Access and Upper James Street, around 4:40 a.m. for reports of a collision.

The driver and the passenger, both from Hamilton, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No other details have been provided about them so far.

Investigators said it’s not yet clear what caused the crash.

“Police are actively seeking witnesses to this incident and urge anyone with information to come forward,” Hamilton police said in a news release.

“Investigators are also requesting any motorists in the area at the time of the collision to check their dash cameras and any residences or businesses in the area with surveillance cameras to review their camera footage.”

Police are asking anyone with information to reach out to the Collision Reconstruction Office or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously.
