A Hamilton man has been charged with voyeurism after allegedly recording people without their knowledge over a span of nearly 20 years.

Police in Hamilton, Ont., have arrested a 40-year-old man they suspect has been recording multiple individuals without consent for nearly 20 years.

They said a witness discovered the video recordings and contacted them on May 2.

“A preliminary review of the materials revealed multiple recordings depicting individuals in private settings without their knowledge or consent,” investigators said in a news release on Wednesday, noting that they seized a number of electronic devices.

A spokesperson for Hamilton police said investigators are still waiting for judicial authorization to determine the number of videos.

“Once we have been able to access the devices, we will be able to provide additional information to the public,” the spokesperson said in an email to CP24.

Police said that the recording devices were hidden in locations where individuals had a “reasonable expectation of privacy.”

They also revealed that the recordings date back as far as 2007 and as recently as 2025.
