Hamilton man charged after loaded handgun seized in Kitchener weapons investigation

A 30-year-old Hamilton man is facing multiple firearms-related charges after Waterloo Regional Police responded to reports of a male brandishing a gun inside a Kitchener establishment early Sunday morning.

Police said officers were called to the area of King Street East and Cedar Street South around 12:20 a.m. for reports of a male with a firearm.

Officers arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect without incident.

During the arrest, police said officers seized a loaded handgun and a pellet gun. No injuries were reported.

As a result of the investigation, the accused has been charged with:

  • pointing a firearm
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • careless use of a firearm
  • possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • carrying a concealed weapon (two counts)
  • possession of a firearm or weapon contrary to a prohibition order (two counts)
