A 41-year-old man has been charged and a woman is recovering after an early morning stabbing in Hamilton.

Police say the incident happened in the Mountain Eastmount neighbourhood located at Fennel Avenue East and East 26th Street following reports of a “stabbing call.”

When officers arrived, they say they located a woman with “minor stab wounds,” adding that “she has since been treated, and remains in stable condition.”

The suspect, who police did not identify by name, was arrested a short time later “without incident,” police said.

The 41-year-old has since been charged with aggravated assault and arson.

As a result of the investigation, a portion of Fennell Avenue East (East 28th to Upper Sherman Avenue) was closed to let forensic investigators process the scene.

Hamilton police are asking anyone with additional information to contact Detective Walters at 905-546-8968.
