People living on Six Nations of the Grand River need to continue boiling their water before using it.
A boil water advisory was issued for the area on July 10. Three days later, the order remains in place as officials wait for test results to come back from the lab. They hope that will happen early this week, but in the meantime the water from the taps is not considered safe to drink, cook with, or to brush teeth or clean dental appliances.
The notice was issued after a waterline break was discovered. Even though that issue has since been located and fixed, the advisory continues until Public Works gets two clear water samples and can confirm the water is safe to drink.
People living in the area should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, preparing baby formula, brushing teeth, making ice cubes or washing fruit.
Residents are also encouraged to give infants and toddlers a sponge bath to make sure they don’t accidentally swallow water.
Anyone who accidentally drinks the water and becomes ill should contact their doctor or health practitioner.
