Eleven puppies between one and two days old were abandoned in a cardboard box in Brantford.
Hillside Kennels Animal Control works with the City of Brantford to address animal welfare issues in the area. They said they picked up the dogs on Beach Road trail near the Echo Place neighbourhood around 10:30 Monday morning.
“There is no excuse for dumping puppies,” the organization said in a social media post. “We worry about the mom who may be worried where they have gone or that she may have passed away.”
Hillside officials believe the puppies may be bully breed type dogs.
The dogs were transferred into the care of Sato Saved End of the Line Dog Rescue and Rehabilitation as they require special attention, such as bottle feeding, due to their age.
Sato says another rescue has stepped up to help take care of the dogs.
