Crash closes Highway 6 near Freelton

An early morning collision involving a transport truck closed a busy highway for hours.

Drivers are being warned of a tractor trailer crash on Highway 6 near Freelton.

Ontario Provincial Police said a truck, carrying steel, hit a construction barrier in the northbound lanes around 3:30 a.m. on Monday.

The vehicle then crossed the highway, striking the southbound barrier.

No one was hurt.

Police said diesel fuel spilled across the road and into a nearby ditch.

The Ministry of Environment were called in for an environmental assessment.

Highway 6, near Concession Road 12 East, was expected to remain closed until at least 7 p.m.

OPP said the delay was “due to digging out the diesel spill and removal and replacement of the damaged concrete barriers.”

Charges are pending.
