An 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after two people were shot in broad daylight on Friday afternoon in Hamilton.
Hamilton police say the shooting happened shortly before 2:15 p.m. in the area of King Street East and Lawrence Road after officers responded to reports of gunshots.
When police arrived, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers then provided assistance before the victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a news release.
Police said they believe the shooting was targeted.
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Darien Wilson of Hamilton, was arrested a short time later. A firearm was also located nearby, police said.
Wilson faces numerous charges, including attempted murder, discharge of a firearm with intent to injure, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, possession of a restricted firearm knowing its possession was unauthorized, and two counts of aggravated assault. The charges have not been tested in court.
