A man who allegedly injured a Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officer over the weekend has now been charged with attempted murder.
Niagara police say the officer responded to a domestic violence call at 3:30 p.m. on Sat. Jan. 18 in the area of Spears Road North and Gilmore Road in Fort Erie.
Police have not said how the officer got injured, but say they remain in hospital and are recovering from serious injuries.
The female victim involved in the domestic violence call was not injured.
NRPS have since charged a 45-year-old man with attempted murder, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, impaired driving, and others. The charges have not been tested in court.
Since part of the incident is being investigated by the NRPS Domestic Violence Unit, the accused’s name will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
A shotgun was also seized during the arrest, according to police.
No other details will be released as Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is also investigating the incident.
