Police say a suspect fled on foot following a shooting at the Niagara Gateway Information Centre in Grimsby, Ont., that left one person suffering serious injuries.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the centre, located at 424 S Service Rd., just off the QEW, around 5:15 p.m. Thursday, according to Niagara Regional Police.

Niagara Emergency Medical Service subsequently transported the victim to an out-of-region hospital for treatment, where their injuries were determined to be serious but non-life threatening, police say.

“The investigation revealed that the suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival,” Niagara police said in a news release.

“This is believed to be a targeted incident, detectives do not believe there is an ongoing risk to public safety at this time.”

Police say detectives have taken over the investigation and are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009383.
