An unlicensed driver who did not have insurance was nabbed with three children unsecured in the back seat of a vehicle in Niagara Region, police say.
Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) Niagara Detachment said on Wednesday, at 8:35 a.m., one of their officers received an Automated License Plate Recognition alert for a vehicle in Welland.
Police say they pulled over the driver of the vehicle, which had three children in the back seat, ages one, three, and four, who were not secured in child seats.
An unnamed 27-year-old woman from Thorold, Ont., who only has a G1 licence, was found to be unlicensed and had no insurance on the vehicle, they said.
Investigators said “appropriate” charges have been laid.
“Drivers are responsible for ensuring all passengers under 16 years of age are wearing a seatbelt or a proper child car seat,” the OPP said in a post on X.
“Conducting seatbelt law enforcement and public education forms an important part of the OPP’s commitment to reducing fatalities and injuries on our roads.”
