A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle being driven by an off-duty Niagara police officer in St. Catharines has died in the hospital.
In an update on Thursday, Niagara police said the 85-year-old male died as a result of the injuries he sustained when he was hit by the vehicle Tuesday morning.
Police had said he was hit at around 9:45 a.m. in the parking lot of a plaza at the corner of Welland Avenue and Bunting Road and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The off-duty officer who struck the man remained on the scene.
To avoid any conflict of interest under the Policing Act, Hamilton police are conducting the investigation.
