A 15-year-old girl was arrested after a 17-year-old girl was assaulted at a park in St. Catharines on Friday night.

Niagara Regional Police said a call came in shortly before 8 p.m. for a large disturbance at Lakeside Park.

“Witnesses reported several teenage females attacking another teenage female out near the snack shack located within the park,” police said in a news release on Saturday.

When officers arrived, they located a 17-year-old victim with injuries to her head and face, police said.

One suspect, a 15-year-old girl from St. Catharines, was later identified and taken into custody. No word on charges laid.

Police said they have increased uniform presence at the beach following other reports of disturbances this year.
