A 16-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in Brampton last August, marking the fourth “and final” arrest.
Peel Regional Police said they were called to a home at Millstone Drive and St. Tropez Court early in the morning on Aug. 30, and found a man who had been shot inside of his vehicle. He later died at the scene.
Police are not disclosing the victim’s identity at the request of his family.
Three people have already been charged in connection to the homicide. In September, police charged now 24-year-old Parmvir Singh with first-degree murder, and in November, police charged 21-year-old Manvir Khabra and an 18-year-old man with manslaughter.
Officers said they could not name the 18-year-old due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, as he was a youth at the time of the shooting.
As a result of how their investigation unfolded, detectives identified a fourth suspect: a 16-year-old from Brampton. They charged him with first-degree murder on Jan. 16.
None of the charges have been tested in court.
“I want to commend our investigators for their diligent efforts that will bring justice to the victim and closure for the family. We will continue to investigate and hold those accountable for such senseless and heinous crimes that threaten the safety of our communities,” PRP Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said in Tuesday’s release.
CTV News Toronto obtained video appearing to show the moments leading up to when the victim was killed.
In the video, an SUV is seen idling on the side of the road as someone is heard demanding to be let inside the vehicle. The SUV then drives away and what sounds like gunshots ring out shortly after, and four people are seen running away.
