A woman in her 50s is dead after being hit by a dump truck in Mississauga Thursday afternoon.
Peel police said they responded to a collision in the Eglinton Avenue West and Erin Mills Parkway around 1:15 p.m.
The woman was in the crosswalk going eastbound when she was hit by a northbound dump truck, Peel police spokesperson Const. Tyler Bell-Morena said.
The pedestrian suffered critical injuries and was taken to a trauma centre, where she later died.
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck remained at the scene.
“This is a very large intersection with multiple lanes in each direction,” Bell-Morena said.
“It’s no stranger to collisions here, typically not with pedestrians, albeit. But it is a very busy intersection with a high volume of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.”
He said the Major Collision Bureau is investigating the collision.
“They’re going through the reconstruction element. There’s going to be some other assets. Our aerial support unit is going to assist in terms of mapping out the scene to determine exactly what transpired to lead to the pedestrian and the truck colliding,” Bell-Morena added.
