Teenage G1 driver charged in fatal hit-and-run in Caledon

A teenage G1 driver has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run collision in Caledon in August that left a 60-year-old pedestrian dead.

Ontario Provincial Police said they received a call just before 1 a.m. on Aug. 27 for a collision near Mayfield and McLaughlin roads.

Officers arrived and found a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle. OPP said the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday, investigators announced that a suspect, a 16-year-old from Brampton, was arrested the previous day.

The teen has been charged with failure to stop at accident resulting death, driving with a G1 licence while unaccompanied by qualified driver, and driving with G1 licence at unlawful hour.

The suspect cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
