Peel police say eight people are facing a combined total of 70 charges after officers recovered three loaded firearms during two traffic stops earlier this month.
In a news release, officials say officers with the Strategic and Tactical Enforcement Police (STEP) unit stopped two vehicles “believed to be associated with one another” at around 3 a.m. on Sept. 13.
During the first stop, police say “multiple open alcoholic beverage containers” were observed inside the vehicle, leading to a search where a handgun was located.
In the second vehicle, police say cannabis was found “readily accessible” to the front passenger, contrary to the Cannabis Control Act, and two additional loaded handguns were seized.
A full list of suspects and their individual charges can be found here.
Police say all eight suspects were held for bail hearings and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Each faces multiple firearm-related offences, as well as charges including possession of a controlled substance and failing to comply with release orders.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact investigators at 905-453-2121, ext. 3515, or provide tips anonymously through Peel Crime Stoppers.
