Police media relations officer Const. Tyler Bell said officers arrived and found the victim with gunshot injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Bell said a man in his 30s was taken into custody shortly after.

“It is believed at this point that he’s the only suspect that we’re looking for in relation to this,” he added.

When asked whether the suspect and the victim knew each other, Bell said the two may be related, but the exact nature of their relationship is unknown.

“We believe at this point that this is, of course, an incident of familial violence, and so we ask that people respect the privacy of the people that are involved. They’ve lost a loved one tonight, but also one of their family members is in police custody and faces incarceration,” the constable said.

He noted that the shooting was contained within the residence and there is no threat to public safety, as it is believed to be an isolated incident.

“This is not a random incident, and we believe that it’s controlled with the people that we have in custody,” Bell said.
