An eighth person has been arrested and charged in connection with an armed home invasion in the Hillside area, east of Huntsville.
Shortly before 5 a.m. on Canada Day, officers from the Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an armed home invasion at a home in the Hillside area.
As the situation developed, the investigation broadened, prompting the closure of Highway 11 in both directions between Severn River and Coopers Falls roads, and between Canning and Graham roads.
On Tuesday a 32-year-old Brampton was charged with:
- Three counts of robbery using firearm,
- Kidnapping while using firearm,
- Forcible confinement,
- Assault with a weapon,
- Pointing a firearm,
- Firearm - use while committing offence,
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
- Theft of a motor vehicle,
- Conspiracy to commit indictable offence.
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Wednesday.
Investigators believe additional suspects, who may be armed and dangerous, remain at-large. The OPP urges the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to police.
