An 18-year-old Brampton man is facing multiple firearm charges after police say a traffic stop for careless driving led to the seizure of a loaded handgun.

An 18-year-old Brampton man is facing multiple firearm charges after police say a traffic stop for careless driving led to the seizure of a loaded handgun.

Peel Regional Police say officers with the 22 Division Community Intervention and Response Team were on patrol Feb. 27 in the Kennedy Road and Clarence Road area when they observed a vehicle “speeding and making unsafe lane changes.”

Police say officers stopped the vehicle and conducted a search of the driver under the Cannabis Control Act.

Investigators allege officers found a loaded Glock 17 handgun and a magazine containing rounds of ammunition.

As a result, Malachi King-Favours, of Brampton, has been charged with:

  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Careless driving

Police say he was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.
