A man in his 60s is seriously injured after hitting a concrete curb on a motorized scooter in Brampton on Thursday morning, police say.
Peel Regional Police said the incident took place on Vodden Street East and Garfield Crescent shortly before 9:45 a.m.
Media relations officer Taylor Halfyard said the man was travelling eastbound on Vodden Street when he appears to have struck a curb.
“The driver sustained serious injuries as a result of that collision,” Halfyard said, adding that it appears the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
While the driver of the vehicle was initially transported to local hospital, he’s since been transferred to a trauma centre, where Halfyard said he’s in “critical, life-threatening condition.”
Vodden Street East between Garfield Crescent and Cumberland Drive was closed as investigators surveyed the scene but all roadways have since reopened.
