Police say they are trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was run over by a vehicle in Mississauga early Wednesday morning.
According to police, a man in his 40s was lying in the roadway near Derry Road East and Hurontario Street at around 3:45 a.m. when he was run over by a vehicle.
The man was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene and the driver remained on scene.
Police said they believe the man may have been struck by another driver that has not yet come forward.
“We are trying to ascertain what did occur here… If there was anyone that was in the area, it was dark and rainy, obviously weather may play a factor here, if you believe you may have struck somebody or that you struck something to please contact police,” Const. Laurie McCann told reporters at the scene on Wednesday morning.
“We do believe that something did occur prior to him being run over and dragged a short distance.”
Police are urging anyone who has dash camera video or who witnessed anything in the area prior to the incident to contact investigators.
“There is a lot of video in the area,” McCann said. “The officers are canvassing and looking and hopefully within time we will figure out exactly what occurred here.”
