A male is dead following a stabbing in Mississauga on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened in the Cooksville neighbourhood near Hurontario Street and Agnes streets over the noon hour.

Paramedics say that the victim was located with life-threatening injuries and subsequently pronounced dead on scene.

An unknown number of suspects, possibly two, were last seen fleeing eastbound on Agnes Street, according to police.

Schools in the area were placed under hold-and-secure orders as a precaution but police confirmed that the measure had been lifted at around 1:20 p.m.

The southbound lanes of Hurontario Street are closed north of Dundas Street due to the police investigation.

More details to come. This is a developing story.
