Vehicle fleeing Peel police involved in collision with cruiser in Brampton, driver hospitalized

A Peel police cruiser was involved in a collision with a vehicle that attempted to flee from officers in Brampton early Thursday morning.

The collision happened shortly after 1 a.m. in the vicinity of Van Kirk Drive and Sandalwood Parkway.

Police say that officers initially attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Rutherford Road and Orenda Road, however it fled the scene.

Police say there was not a pursuit of the vehicle following the attempted stop.

In an email to CP24, officers say they later located the vehicle near Van Kirk Drive and Sandalwood Parkway, where they say crash with the cruiser took place.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain unclear.

Peel paramedics say one adult was assessed at the scene and transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Police described the driver’s injuries as non-life-threatening.

Road closures will remain in effect “for the foreseeable” on Van Kirk Drive between Cedarvalley Boulevard and Sandalwood Parkway, police said.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
