Woman dead after crash on Hwy. 401 in Mississauga

Police say one woman is dead and another person was injured following a collision on Highway 401 in Mississauga on Saturday night.

The three-vehicle crash happened at around 8:15 p.m. in the eastbound collector lanes of the highway near Mississauga Road.

In an update on Sunday, Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that a 78-year-old female passenger of one of the vehicles was rushed to a trauma centre for treatment but later died.

Police have not released the name of the victim but say she resided in North York.

The driver of that vehicle was also transported to hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the collision is now under investigation, police say.

The collector lanes were closed for several hours but reopened at around 4 a.m.
