A Brampton man is facing numerous charges after cash was stolen from an armoured car in downtown Toronto.
The incident happened on April 14 near Yonge Street and Dundas Street East. Toronto police said they were called to that area for reports of a theft from a motor vehicle just after 3:15 p.m.
Investigators say two armoured car guards drove their armoured vehicle to a location to complete a cash drop-off, exiting the vehicle and entering the premises.
At the same time, a white pickup truck approached the armoured vehicle, and a lone suspect exited the pickup truck. Police say that the individual then proceeded to enter the front door of the armoured vehicle, which had been left unlocked. The suspect took a quantity of cash before fleeing the area, they added.
Officers from the Hold Up Squad who were assigned to the investigation later identified an employee of the armoured car company as being involved in the theft, police said.
On May 13, they executed a Criminal Code Search Warrant, where the suspect was found and arrested.
Police further alleged that during the search, officers recovered a firearm and other items of “evidentiary value.”
Dane Marson, 35, of Brampton, has been charged with one count each of theft over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of a firearm without being the holder of a license, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm knowing not the holder of a valid license, and failure to comply with undertaking.
Marson is also facing three counts of possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon or prohibited device. The charges have not been tested in court.
He was scheduled to appear in bail court on May 14.
This investigation is ongoing, and anyone with further information is asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-7350 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
