A Ferrari driver was halted in Caledon after reportedly speeding and refusing to pull onto the gravel shoulder, over concerns it could damage the vehicle’s paint.

Police say the 24-year-old Brampton driver instead stopped in a live traffic lane on Highway 10 after they were nabbed going 50 kilometres over the speed limit.

“The thought of causing a collision going that speed and causing serious body damage, death or injury never came to mind,” said the OPP in a social media warning. “Driving is about making smart choices, not worrying about your clear coat.”

A photo released by police of the Saturday incident shows the Ferrari being towed away from the scene. Police say the vehicle was impounded for a period of 14 days and the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days.

As a result, the man was charged with three offences.

Authorities say this traffic stop was part of a weekend enforcement blitz where Caledon OPP’s Community Mobilization Unit removed nine alleged stunt drivers from local roads.
