A suspicious death investigation is underway in Orillia after a person was found dead Tuesday evening on Scouts Valley Trail.

A 33-year-old Brampton man has been charged with second-degree murder following a “suspicious death” in Orillia.

Ontario Provincial Police say Devon Alamina was arrested Wednesday, just hours after officers discovered a body on Scouts Valley Trail.

Police were called to Old Barrie Road around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday. A huge police presence remained in the area Wednesday as investigators gathered evidence and documented the scene.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety, although residents can expect officers around Scouts Valley Trail and Old Barrie Road as the investigation continues.

The probe is being led by the Orillia OPP Crime Unit, with support from the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Police are asking anyone who was in or near the area Tuesday evening to contact investigators.

Alamina appeared and was remanded into custody.

He is scheduled to appear in court from jail on Monday.
