Two people shot during home invasion in Brampton

A man and woman are recovering in hospital after a home invasion in Brampton early Sunday morning ended with both residents being shot.

Peel Regional Police say emergency crews were called to a home near Ray Lawson Boulevard and Bent Tree Court, in the area of Steeles Avenue West and McLaughlin Road South, shortly after 4 a.m.

Investigators now say the shooting occurred during a home invasion. Police allege at least two suspects armed with firearms entered the residence through the rear of the home while the occupants were sleeping.

Const. Tyler Bell-Morena said a confrontation occurred after the suspects made entry, leading to shots being fired inside the residence.

Paramedics transported an adult man and an adult woman to a trauma centre. Police now believe both victims are in non-life-threatening condition.

The suspects fled the area following the shooting and remain outstanding. Both suspects are said to be wearing dark clothing with their faces covered.

Bell-Morena says it’s unclear how many shots were fired or what type of firearm was used.

A heavy police presence remains in the neighbourhood as investigators canvas the area and collect evidence.

Police are asking residents with doorbell camera or CCTV footage from the area to retain the video and contact investigators, as officers continue to piece together what happened.
