A suspect is in custody after allegedly firing a gun at a police officer during an investigation in Mississauga, earlier Sunday morning.

In a post to social media, Peel regional police say officers were conducting an investigation in the area of Torbram Road and Derry Road East initially warning drivers to expect “lengthy” road closures.

In a follow-up to CP24 at around 9:30 a.m., officials revealed that a man pulled out a firearm and shot at an officer.

Police say the officer was not struck and was not injured.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he was later “medically cleared.” Police did not say how the suspect was injured or whether they returned fire.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remains unclear.

At this time, road closures still remain in the area. There is no word from the SIU at this time.
