A Brampton man, whom police say is “subject to multiple court-ordered firearm prohibitions,” has been charged after allegedly firing a gun at a police officer in Mississauga on Sunday morning.
In a news release, Peel Regional Police (PRP) said members of the Strategic and Tactical Enforcement Policing team were doing “proactive patrols” near Torbram Road when officers saw a “suspicious male fleeing a nearby establishment while wearing a mask around his chin and jumping multiple fences.”
Police said a short time later, an officer found the suspect walking southbound on Torbram Road.
“As the officer attempted to speak with him, the suspect fled on foot. During the pursuit, the suspect turned and discharged a firearm multiple times toward the officer, but missed,” PRP said, adding additional officers quickly responded and he was arrested.
In an earlier post on social media, Peel police said say officers were conducting an investigation in the area of Torbram Road and Derry Road East and initially warned drivers to expect “lengthy” road closures.
In a follow-up to CP24 at around 9:30 a.m., officials revealed that a man allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot at a police officer, adding that the officer was not struck and was not hurt.
Police have not said how the suspect was injured, nor if they returned fire.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear.
2 other officers injured
Peel police have since revealed that two other officers were injured during the incident. They said they were both assessed at the scene for minor injuries.
“This is another stark reminder of the dangers our officers face every day while on the front lines working to keep our communities safe. We are grateful the officer was not seriously injured and that no members of the public were harmed,” Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said in a release.
“This is another example of the cycle of violent crime that continues to impact our communities and must be stopped. We continue to advocate for stronger bail and sentencing to better manage repeat violent offenders like this and reduce the risk they pose to our communities.”

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, which is called in to investigate when police are involved in an incident that results in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person, is “not investigating this matter,” PRP noted.
Suspect has firearms bans
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Isaiah Bachoo, of Brampton, was was subsequently arrested and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later “medically cleared” and released to police custody.
Bachoo has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.
Investigators say they are now consulting with the Crown Attorney regarding “additional and more serious charges.”
The accused’s firearms bans, police added, stem from previous firearm-related convictions in Thunder Bay in 2023, notably a lifetime prohibition from possessing prohibited or restricted firearms, prohibited devices and ammunition, as well as a 10-year prohibition from possessing any firearm.
Roads closed, investigation ongoing
There are several road closures in the area as police investigate. They are expected to be “lengthy,” PRP said in a post on X.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact the 31 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-453-3311, ext. 2133, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
