Three officers with Peel Regional Police have been disciplined after it was discovered that they received and/ or shared confidential information related to a promotions process.

“In this instance, we became aware and acted on a complaint that the integrity of the process was compromised by a few participants,” the force told CP24.com in an email Monday. “We learned, we investigated and we acted.”

As a result of the investigation, none of the officers involved were awarded promotions, the force said.

Peel police said there was “no evidence” to suggest a superintendent or any senior officers were involved in the cheating.

“The matter was assessed in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act and addressed using internal discipline measures. Based on the findings, it did not need to proceed to a hearing,” the force said.

Police did not say exactly how the officers were disciplined and said they could provide few further details on the matter, citing privacy laws.

“We want to stress that Peel Regional Police takes its promotional process with the utmost seriousness,” the force said. “These are the future leaders of the organization, tasked with the safety of our residents and our members. Our processes are designed to get the right people in the right positions at the right time.”

Peel police said they have completed a review of the promotion process and “identified additional safeguards” to help protect the integrity of the promotions process in the future.

A cheating scandal in the Toronto Police Service promotions process back in 2024 resulted in a high-ranking officer being demoted for two years after it was revealed she helped several members of the service cheat.
